The Clive Betts PLP proposal is getting support from the Guardian today.
The article lists many good reasons for supporting this move. But there is one glaringly obvious problem, as stated in the article: “Many will view the PLP’s proposal as a power grab”.
In view of recent history this seems to be a fair assumption!
The solution could be to allay these fears by unifying the party NOW, before they are handed back control, rather than at some future indeterminate date probably entailing months or years of disagreement and argument, with the opposition effectively disabled and a laughing stock.
The first move should come from the PLP members themselves - they should withdraw from their present intransigent position and demonstrate that they can work with and for their democratically elected leader and the majority of the membership.
