In mid-October, the Labour Party called for the Conservative government to use the school half term for a time limited circuit break to push infections down, fix their failing test and trace system, and save lives.
Boris Johnson completely rejected that, only to now announce the same thing.
Boris Johnson has finally decided to follow the science and announced a month long national lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November.
However, the government’s own scientists now say it is too late for a short lockdown and it may have to be longer than the month long lockdown announced.
People and businesses in Derbyshire Dales whose lives will be hugely disrupted by this, rather than hearing about it again, late at night through the press, or on Twitter, deserved to hear directly from the Prime Minister first, in a proper announcement setting out his plans.
This is no way to run a country and is deeply disrespectful to us all.
The Conservative government’s dithering and delay in introducing restrictions will now come at an economic cost and a human cost – they should have been introduced weeks ago.
