The Conservative MP for Derbyshire Dales, Sarah Dines, has been using taxpayer’s money to pay for regular stays at a four-star hotel near Parliament, despite owning six properties worth over £5million – one just a 30-minute tube ride away from Westminster and another an hour’s drive away.
Worryingly, Sarah Dines hasn’t broken any laws or rules, MPs are allowed to do this – they can spend taxpayers money to cover ‘the costs of working from two permanent locations’, even though as a millionaire, Sarah Dines could easily cover the cost herself.
However, Sarah Dines has chosen to spend taxpayer’s money on luxury accommodation for herself, at a time when the Conservatives are repeatedly telling us about the difficult decisions they are having to make, spending our money and the consequences of pandemic spending on our future lives, businesses and public services.
Recently in Parliament, Sarah Dines said, “Our hard-earned taxpayer’ money should be spent wisely. Our voters expect this.” A year on from her election, we hope she will now choose to show her Derbyshire Dales constituents and those who voted for her more respect and spend taxpayer’s money more wisely in future.
