Taking advantage of Covid?

As a former Governor, it has come to my attention that the Governors and Head of Highfields School are proposing to change the school’s status from that of a Derbyshire County Council maintained school to an Academy run by a remote East Midlands Educational Trust.

It is not my purpose in this letter to outline the arguments for maintaining the school in its present form or not; that is the job of the Governors, the Head, the teachers and above all the parents.
How effectively this can be done when, because of Covid, there are restrictions on public meetings of all interested parties I fail to see.

To go ahead at this time and impose such a significant change to educational provision in Matlock knowing of and regardless of the problems of consultation would seem to smack of opportunism by those who seek to railroad change through without proper debate.
