Personal Statement

I am immensely proud to stand as the Labour candidate for the area I live. I live in Matlock Bath and have a wonderful family standing by my side and since moving to Derbyshire around 16 years ago I have been a highly active member of my local community, an example of this is the Grand Pavilion project which I am the Operations lead for, this project aims to restore this Edwardian Theatre in the heart of Matlock Bath and create a community resource for all to use. The current work has seen the Pavilion used more by local people than in any stage over the last 30 years, and the continued aim is to build on this great work and bring about a plan to fully restore this wonderful local landmark back to its Edwardian grandeur.

I am also deeply involved in the local Matlock Bath Community, currently vice chair of governors at the local primary school where my 10-year-old son currently attends school, and I have also previously worked as a Parish councillor for the village.

I really love this area and the strong community spirit that we see across the whole Masson ward in  Cromford and Matlock Bath and I know from speaking to a lot of residents and business owners over the past weeks and months that we need to keep working together to ensure that our local area is not overlook by the District council and that we strive to constantly improve our beautiful villages, so we have a bright future for generations to come.

In this regard I believe we need to address the environmental impact across our area and support our residents and businesses to a carbon neutral future but with more ambitious targets and easy access support to support our communities to do the same.

I feel I can offer a wide variety of skills and expertise which I hope I can use in this new role in supporting Masson ward; I currently work as a senior leader in the NHS, I am deeply passionate about my job and the NHS. I have also spent time working at Derbyshire County Council Adult Care department and before moving to Derbyshire I worked at the BBC for 15 years in a variety of roles.

I believe I can bring a passion and energy to help solve local issues and I look forward to working with everyone across our community to ensure we make this a place where everyone is supported and safe.

Many thanks for taking the time to read my message and I hope you will support me by voting me as your District Councillor on the 4th of May and bring about real change and competent management of our local resources and facilities.

Kind regards,

Nick
