Simon Ripton – Hathersage
About me
I’ve worked in financial services for 30 years and have experience of corporate governance, marketing, communications and product design. I now work for a software company that aims to improve financial wellbeing. I am a volunteer director at the Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire Credit Union. I have a degree in Business Law, and an MBA in Sustainable Business. I love to spend time outdoors, fell running, cycling and reading.
Our community
I’m a resident of Eyam where I am actively involved in village life. I am a member of the Eyam Mechanics Institute Committee, actively supporting their events, and regularly volunteer with Eyam Sports Association and with Hope Valley Climate Action. My vision for the ward is that residents work together to maintain a thriving community. However, our community does not currently work for everyone, whether that’s the lack of access to affordable and sustainable housing, transport, or energy.
People, Planet, Profit
I believe in solutions that deliver good outcomes for people, planet and profit. As a District Councillor, I will use my experience and the experiences of others to support and drive affordable housing projects in the Derbyshire Dales and the promotion of community-owned assets as part of the fight against climate change. Local politics is about community and providing a voice for local people. A vote for me will be a vote for a councillor who will work with all groups to further the needs of our community, including:
- affordable homes for local families – our near neighbours in Bradwell have shown what is possible with a village plan, housing needs assessment, community land trust and hard work.
- supporting families through the cost-of-living crisis – prioritising resources to help those in greatest need.
- protecting our unique environment – including banning portable BBQs and campfires on our moorlands, something the Conservatives refused to do.
- supporting local businesses, voluntary organisations, and farmers – particularly when they face Government, Peak Park, or Council red tape.
- facing the challenge of climate change – including more electric vehicle charging points for residents and visitors, help to insulate our homes, and integrated public transport.
